Carbamazepine for mood stabilization can be a useful thrird choice for some patients. It inactivates other medications like birth control pills. I give iron with it as well.
Carbamazepine can cause damage to babies and malformations. There isanother drug called Trileptal with less side effects.(oxcarbazepine). Tegretol can cause serious depression and mental defects in ability that can be permanent or take a year or two go get over. For thos who can’ t function properly on it ask about Trileptal
I’m on Tegretol at the mo so if I ask for Trileptal or Carbitrol? I take 400 twice a day at the mo! I take little salt. I don’t add it to any food and I make most of my meals from scratch so no added salt. I asked my doc about the Blood check like you said but he won’t give me one! He says they check it once a year in the U.K (?). Thanks Doc xxx
